Event in Berlin, 16 October – Peacebuilding: what art can do
Global crises and armed conflicts, inflation and economic and ecological challenges – is there still room for art and cultural work?
On the occasion of our 10th anniversary, we hosted a panel discussion on the significance of art and culcure in times of conflict and war. The event took place on 16 October in Berlin, Germany.
Four countries were represented on the panel, namely Ukraine, Lebanon, Iraq and Germany. We invited Lyana Mytsko, Head and Founder of Lviv Municipal Art Center, Ukraine who have us an insight on the current situation in her country, and the municipal art center’s activities in the context of Russia’s war. Dr Shirwan Can from Paia Agency in Sulimania, Iraq, Corine Shawi, documentary filmmaker, and Yara Nashawaty, film expert from Lebanon shared their experiences based on the projects Mosul Tells and Creative Expression through Films respectively. We also had the pleasure of having Susana Abdulmajid, a German-Iraqi actress, and Carsten Wilms from the Federal Foreign Office. Dr. Bente Scheller, Head of Middle East and North Africa Division from Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung moderated the event.
