Filmmaking workshop #9 – Ehden

Workshop #9

5 – 9 August, 2024

In collaboration with Les Comédien de Nazareth, at Master’s Hotel in Ehden

As we plan for our next and final workshop No. 10 in Jbeil at the end of November, we would like to recall the previous workshop No. 9, which took place in August 2024.

To escape the hot August temperatures that prevail in many parts of Lebanon, we went to the mountains, to Ehden. Ehden is situated at 1500 metres above sea level – a summer resort where most people travel between neighbouring, much lower situated Zgharta (in winter) and Ehden (in summer). In collaboration with our local partner Evelyne Hlais and Les Comédien de Nazareth, the TAABIR team and eight workshop participants gathered in a very pleasant atmosphere at the Master’s Hotel in Ehden.

In keeping with the spirit and good experience of previous workshops, we also integrated three participants from other regions. This again had a great impact on the group, mixing people from different regions and backgrounds and giving everyone a chance to mix, get to know each other and form a really nice group.

Rafic Ghamrawi, one of the participants, shares his experience: “This workshop enabled me to express things I had never shared with anyone. Although I didn’t want to say them directly, through the camera, I was able to communicate them to specific people.”

Participants also shared cars and travelled together to more distant locations to film, opening up new horizons and means of expression. “Having the workshop in Ehden, surrounded by nature and away from city traffic, allowed me to reflect more deeply on this workshop,” said workshop participant Tharaa Captan.

After five intensive days of workshops, the local screening took place in front of an audience of friends and family of the participants, local collaborators and the cultural community in Ehden, providing another opportunity for networking and sharing experiences.

The project “Creative Expression through Films” is implemented by elbarlament e.V. and funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. Find out more about it here.
