Clean Tigris Research Book “Water is life” is Online!
Within the framework of the project “Clean Tigris- Dialogue Programme for Sustainable Peace in Mesopotamia” elbarlament published a book on sustainable solutions for issues such as climate change, water pollution and conflict due to water scarcity in the Land Between Two Rivers.
Today, we are sharing with you the first contribution by Sameh Al-Muqdadi – who also moderates our “Clean Tigris” dialogue programme this year. He analyses possibilities for cooperation, travels with us to the future and imagines how the region of the Euphrates-Tigris basin would look like in 20 years under two different scenarios: In the first scenario, the riparian countries have reached a strategic agreement, while in the second they have not.
The book presents some of the results of an extensive research in 2020. While its goal is to promote environmental awareness in Iraq, it is also a response to the meagre research landscape regarding the water situation in Iraq and the Euphrates and Tigris basin.
In total, five contributions will shed light on the rivers in the land of the two streams from different perspectives: we look through a gender lens, discover the field of international conflict resolution, as well as good practices from the Rhine basin, learn about the very first laws on water management in Mesopotamia and travel to Basra to develop a sustainable vision of the southern city.
