Youth camp in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq

The project “Dialogue and Participation in Iraq” has started with a youth camp that elbarlament organised together with its partners Ufuq Organisation and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Iraq.

Acceptance of others, reconciliation and conflict resolution are what dialog is all about. Dialogue is crucial for a state as diverse as Iraq. Dialogues also give young people the ability to stand up for their interests with self-confidence.

During the five day camp, more than 60 young people from all over Iraq gathered in Sulaymaniyah and engaged in policy development, trust building and networking activities both in the city as well as in the surrounding nature. Together with all partners, the youth discussed and developed policy recommendations and presented them to representatives of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for further development into policies and governmental action.

The youth camp is part of a dialogue process that our partner organisation Ufuq is implementing as part of the project “Quality and Effectiveness of Dialogue and Participation in Iraq”. The camp will be followed by other joint activities in the next six months.
