Trainings in Iraq – Ministry of Environment and Labor and Social Affairs
As part of the Women Taking the Lead project, we were pleased to conduct two trainings to start the year. More specifically:
On January 14-16, we organised a training in Baghdad with the Ministry of Environment (MoE), focusing on policies that are inclusive and responsive to the needs of women and men, in the context of Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) agenda and the climate nexus. Led by trainer Hoda Qandil, the sessions utilized a participatory approach, including case management and real-life examples of climate challenges in Iraq. The training aimed to strengthen MoE staff’s capacity to develop policies that address environmental challenges while ensuring inclusivity and responsiveness to the diverse needs of Iraqi communities.
On January 18-20, a similar training was conducted in Erbil with the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA). The training centered on developing policies that are inclusive and responsive to the needs of women and men, within the framework of Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) under UNSCR 1325, and climate change. Trainer Hoda Qandil guided participants through participatory sessions featuring case studies of climate challenges in Iraq and facilitated discussions on inclusive policymaking. The training empowered MoLSA staff to design solutions that address climate-related social issues while promoting inclusivity and equitable support for diverse communities. These trainings play a crucial role in promoting responsive policymaking and fostering resilience to climate and social challenges in Iraq.
