Drafting a Strategy Towards Enhancing Women’s Participation in Peacebuilding in Ninewah

The purpose of the project is to provide insight on existing gateways and opportunities for improving women’s participation in economic, social and political life in Ninewah– the second largest governorate after Baghdad– particularly in a post-ISIS era.

Elbarlament– with funding from Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ)– and with close cooperation with civil society members, academics, heads of women organizations, and civil servants in Ninewah, aims to develop a comprehensive strategy paper that will include a series of recommendations and proposals by the inhabitants of Ninewah on the topic. The strategy paper will eventually be submitted to the Iraqi President’s Office.

With local ownership being our motto, elbarlament has managed to successfully conduct its project activities online and has achieved an impressive participation rate, despite the current COVID-19 situation in Iraq and around the world. Currently, the project is in its final stage where elbarlament is diligently working on drafting the strategy paper as a result of the various workshops, focus group discussions and meetings it conducted with its stakeholders in the past weeks.
