Civic education workshops in Basra, Iraq
During October, elbarlament organised two (two-day-long) civic education workshops with 45 participants. Held in Basra and intended especially for the youths of Basra and Nassiriya, the workshops included interactive exercises and instructive talks. They combined theoretical instruction with participant-led activities, encouraging the attendees to develop their critical-thinking skills in relation to civic and political knowledge and values.
Participants were invited to think through a number of different scenarios and through role-playing activities discussed different civic, political and ethical challenges. These activities were thoroughly designed to develop transferable skills that might be applied to real-world scenarios within the participants’ local communities in the future.
