Michaela Eckart, Programmes Director (on maternity leave)
Michaela Eckart holds a university degree in Islamic Studies and International Law. Over the past five years, she has been working in the field of gender, international constitutional law and human rights in the MENA region.
She has been living and worked extensively in the Middle East in her previous positions and is familiar with operating in culturally diverse environments. Michaela Eckart was employed in the MENA programme of the Danish Institute for Human Rights in 2015/16 and managed the gender projects in the Goethe-Institut Cairo in 2017/18. Recently, she contributed to a book publication on constitutional change in MENA.
Michaela Eckart managed the GIZ-funded project “A strategy for women participation in peace processes in Nineveh” with elbarlament e.V. and is currently responsible for the management of the GIZ project ‘’Women talking peace – Women leading peace talks’’, which will be implemented until January 2022 in Iraq.Michaela has very good Arabic skills.
