This comic book is the result of an entire year of joint efforts as part of elbarlament’s dialogue programme Clean Tigris.
In three stories, the book raises awareness among children and adults alike,
by telling the tale of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers in the Middle East. Modern-day Iraq is heavily affected by climate change. In particular, water scarcity and desertification threaten to accelerate political and cultural conflicts. To address this issue, women and men from different regions, social and ethnic backgrounds living and working along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers united behind the project “Clean Tigris – dialogue for sustainable peace in Mesopotamia”.
We believe that a first step to ensuring that our planet remains intact for future generations is to understand the value and importance of water as a limited resource – which is what this book aims to do.
This book would not exist without the support of the ifa, its funding programme zivik, and the funds of the German Federal Foreign Office, who supported the idea for this book in a year of worldwide lockdowns due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
