Women in Dakahlia: Climate Adaptation, Leadership, and Peacebuilding Opportunities”

This paper examines the role of rural women in climate adaptation and community peacebuilding in Dakahlia, Egypt. Rural communities are increasingly affected by higher temperatures, water shortages, soil salinity, declining agricultural productivity, and tensions caused by resource scarcity.

The study highlights women as key actors in adapting to these challenges. They manage household resources such as water and food, help mediate conflicts within families and communities, and develop local solutions such as water-efficient rooftop farming and neighborhood environmental initiatives.

However, women remain underrepresented in local planning committees and agricultural organizations, limiting their influence on formal policies. The paper therefore argues that women should not be viewed only as beneficiaries of climate policies, but as leaders and agents of sustainable change and community peacebuilding.
